Did you know... 58% of all Emergency Calls are for Senior Citizens
Are they prepared for this? There's panic, confusion, fear and a terrible sense of urgency and helplessness.
With the "File of Life" there is solid information on conditions and medications; it's written down and ready to be utilized immediately by the EMT's. The FILE OF LIFE card enables medics to obtain a quick medical history when a patient is unable to offer one.
"The card eliminates the risk of a patient, in a frightened state, forgetting to mention something important, " said M. G. Ishler, Director of the Sought Hadley, Mass, Council on Aging.
The card, which is kept in a red plastic pocket labeled FILE OF LIFE, lists the patient name, emergency medical contact, insurance policy,
social security number, health problems, medications, dosages, allergies, recent surgery, religion and a health care proxy.
The entire pocket is held with a magnet to the outside of the refrigerator.
The purpose of the “File of Life” is to have a standardized medical record in your home easily accessible for Paramedics and Police Officers. Bedford Park and Aging Well are proud to be able to offer – free of charge- the “File of Life” to all of Bedford Park’s senior residents who wish to participate in the program.
